Six Organizations Secure Funding for North Dakota’s Suicide Prevention Initiative: Early Intervention and Reducing Stigma

Six Organizations in North Dakota Receive Grants from Health and Human Services for Suicide Prevention Efforts

In a recent announcement, North Dakota Health and Human Services has selected six organizations to receive funding for its suicide prevention initiative. These groups were chosen for their ability to offer support to individuals dealing with mental health issues. Among them are Minot State University’s Center for Persons with Disabilities, Peer Vision for Mental Health, Haugen Performance Consulting, Eyes on the Horizon Consulting, Consensus Council, and Cook Center for Human Connection.

Melissa Markegard, the suicide prevention administrator for HHS, emphasized the importance of early intervention in preventing suicide. She stated that everyone in North Dakota shares the same goal of reducing and eliminating suicides within the state. If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please reach out for help by calling or texting 9-8-8. This hotline operates 24/7 to provide support to those in need.

As part of this initiative, these organizations will work together to raise awareness about the warning signs of suicide and provide resources and support to those at risk. They will also work towards reducing stigma surrounding mental health issues and providing accessible and affordable mental health services throughout the state.

With this funding, these organizations can continue their vital work in helping individuals struggling with mental health issues find hope and support when they need it most. By working together and leveraging their unique strengths, they can make a real difference in preventing suicides in North Dakota.
